MISS ZOMBIE QUEEN UK 2010 was announced on Wednesday evening as Von, a self-decried “metal-loving, living dead girl” from East London.

Dancing her way to victory with stage blood during the speciality round of the event sent both judges and the crowd wild to walk away with the inaugural Miss Zombie Queen UK beauty pageant title as well as cash and voucher prizes and the chance to appear in Warren Speed’s sequel to Zombie Women of Satan, released on DVD June 21 by Revolver Entertainment.

Winner Von, in the speciality round, performed a Zombie school girl strip with a bottle of fake blood to the sound of Rob Zombies ‘Living Dead Girl’ .

The two runners-up were Misty Moores (an “undercover agent and all round swell gal” who likes “likes swinging, jiving, ducking and diving,”) and Collette Von Tora who described herself as a “Zombie freak extraordinaire who has been to BOTH Manchester Zombie walks and has recently been a regular Zombie for the ‘How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse’ show.

The first ever MISS ZOMBIE QUEEN UK beauty pageant was held at The Cobden Club on Wednesday 16th June in association with Revolver Entertainment to celebrate the DVD release of Zombie Women of Satan on June 21st 2010.

Ten finalists were chosen for the judging finals held in front of a hugely enthusiastic crowd and official judges who included Total Film online editor Sam Ashurst, glam model and “Chelsea’s fittest fan” Victoria Shelley and the film’s lead actress, Victoria Hopkins.

The finalists were judged on various categories, including their ‘zombie-ness’, their special skills (which included piano playing, escaping from a strait jacket, zombie painting and burlesque routines), overall sexiness as well as their answers to the questions posed to them by the show’s host, Pervo the Clown (aka Warren Speed, the film’s writer, director and star).

Revolver Entertainment’s Home Entertainment Marketing Manager Mike Hewitt commented; “With Warren Speed, the film’s director, being a well-known male burlesque performer around the UK, we were proud to have staged the UK’s first ever Miss Zombie Queen beauty pageant to help promote the release of his film”.

“We were inundated with applications from girls willing to take part, and selecting all of the entrants down to the final ten proved to be a hard task. However, we are delighted with all of our final contestants, and the evening proved to be such a success, we are already looking at hosting another event next year and making this an annual event.”

The evening was also supported with burlesque performance from Banbury Cross, Hell’s Belle, Betty D’Light and Marnie Scarlett as well as a live performance from the rock group Killer B-Movie.

Watch the short teaser clip of the event here (full video from Monday 21st June);

Dreadzone’s Greg Dread says, “We are honoured that the youtube generation have taken this remix to heart. We love it ourselves… [it’s] an amazing feeling. It just goes to show that if you keep releasing great music, people will find it, listen to it, and from there take the time to discover the other music you’ve released throughout your career.”

DOUCHEBAG, the edgy comedy about two brothers whose reluctant reunion after years of estrangement takes them on a riotous pre-wedding road trip, has been acquired for U.S. distribution by Red Dragon

DOUCHEBAG, the edgy comedy about two brothers whose reluctant reunion after years of estrangement takes them on a riotous pre-wedding road trip, has been acquired for U.S. distribution by Red Dragon, it was announced today. Founded in 2008 by entrepreneur investor Franck Dubarry, Red Dragon will partner on the project with former William Morris Independent head Cassian Elwes, along with Mark Urman, whose company, Paladin, will handle the film’s theatrical release and marketing. A September release is planned.

DOUCHEBAG debuted in competition at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival to wide acclaim from audiences and critics alike, and marked the second feature for director Drake Doremus, whose first film, SPOONER, debuted in competition at the 2009 Slamdance Film Festival. DOUCHEBAG was produced by Jonathan Schwartz through his Super Crispy Entertainment shingle (which also produced SPOONER), along with Marius Markevicius. The film, which stars Andrew Dickler and Ben York Jones as the brothers, received rave reviews from top critics, including Los Angeles Times’ Kenny Turan, Entertainment Weekly’s Owen Gleiberman and KCRW’s “The Treatment” critic Elvis Mitchell, among numerous others.

About the deal producer Schwartz says, “Drake and I are ecstatic to have Mark Urman and Franck Dubarry pushing this film and believing in it so much. Mark has always had amazing taste, and we’ve seen his success in the past with Sundance films like HALF NELSON. It’s exciting to have people on board who share our enthusiasm for the genuine laughs and emotions that our beloved DOUCHEBAG provides.”

Urman adds, “I am extremely excited to be teaming with Franck and Red Dragon, as well as Cassian, who brought us all together, in such an innovative distribution arrangement, which is only fitting given how fresh and original DOUCHEBAG itself is. Drake is a very accomplished filmmaker, wise beyond his years, and I think we are pretty wise ourselves for helping him further what will doubtless be a great career.”

The deal was negotiated by UTA’s Independent Film Group, which represented the film on behalf of the producers, along with attorney Lawrence Kopeikin of the firm Barnes Morris.

LOSTBOY! AKA JIM KERR is the debut solo album from the legendary Simple Minds’ singer/ songwriter. It is released in the UK & Ireland on 16th May 2010 on earMUSIC, the international pop rock label of Edel Group, distributed by Absolute via Universal.

To celebrate the release of Jim Kerr’s debut solo album ‘Lostboy AKA’ out next week Jim is putting on a special Glasgow Preview to take place in the tiny ABC2 venue, Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow on Tuesday 18th May 2010. Doors open at 8.00pm UK time.

Tickets cannot be bought for this special performance but 25 pairs of tickets can be won from Jim’s official website www.lostboyaka.com

Produced by Jez Coad (Simple Minds last 2 albums) and featuring Charlie Jones on bass (Robert Plant, Page & Plant, Goldfrapp) alongside long-time Simple Minds drummer Mel Gaynor, Lostboy! AKA showcases a new musical alter ego for Jim, whilst retaining strong links with his 40-million selling, 33-year career with Simple Minds.

Lostboy! AKA is all about big melodic themes, turbo charged rhythms and guitars that shine. It is a noisy and juvenile explosion that comes from a wise head and a sophisticated heart; a rock and roll clatter that involves sequencers and hidden symphonies. It is also an eclectic collection, with tracks ranging from the Joy Division-esque, electro-tinged She Fell in Love With Silence via pop gems such as title track Lostboy! and Bulletproof Heart, to the instantly recognisable Simple Minds sound of Shadowland, which has also been selected as the lead single for this epic record.

The album will be released in 4 physical formats as well as digitally; a standard 11-track CD; 12” Vinyl; a limited edition CD featuring 3 bonus studio tracks, and a collector’s edition bundle which includes both the CD and a 7” vinyl single featuring covers of Velvet Underground’s “What Goes On” and The Verve’s “Lucky Man”.

Jim Kerr says, “Unbelievably I seemed to have reconnected with the spirit of the kid I was when I first started to make rock music. As if I had come face to face with the lost boy that I had left behind. I wanted to make music that reflected the rediscovery of the energy with which I had reconnected. I am delighted with the result and convinced that Lostboy! AKA is something special that will grow quickly over the next years in parallel with the ongoing great story of Simple Minds.”

Sweethead, the new project from Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age, A Perfect Circle, Failure), have released their Self-Titled debut album through The End Records. Named after a Bowie B-Side, Sweethead includes Serrina on vocals, Norm Block on drums (Mark Lanegan Band, Plexi) and Eddie Nappi on bass (Mark Lanegan Band, Handsome).

Sweethead’s debut contains the slithering rock gem “Traumatized And Dumb,” which was previously included on their EP Traumatized and Dumb, which was only released in Europe. From the punk influenced track “Turned Our Backs” to the gritty “City Of Dirt” Sweethead is a potent reminder of the sheer thrills of rock ‘n’ roll decadence.

Purchase the album from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003K40RKG?ie=UTF8&tag=red_dist-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B003K40RKG

Recently, Venuszine.com premiered the video for the track “Traumatized And Dumb,” which was filmed while the band toured Europe with Eagles of Death Metal and Them Crooked Vultures last year. Watch it here: http://venuszine.com/clips/video/music/94/Exclusive_Premiere

For the month of May Sweethead have settled into L.A.’s seminal indie-rock venue Spaceland. The residency kicked off on May 3rd, and every Monday following the band will be playing a FREE show. The residency wraps on May 24th with a “family night” featuring other QOTSA-related acts such as Mini-Mansions, Alain Johannes and a “very special guest.” Ashes Divide, Slang Chickens, Earthlings? and Red Fang are among other acts playing alongside the band during the stint.
