Dreadzone’s Greg Dread says, “We are honoured that the youtube generation have taken this remix to heart. We love it ourselves… [it’s] an amazing feeling. It just goes to show that if you keep releasing great music, people will find it, listen to it, and from there take the time to discover the other music you’ve released throughout your career.”

LOSTBOY! AKA JIM KERR is the debut solo album from the legendary Simple Minds’ singer/ songwriter. It is released in the UK & Ireland on 16th May 2010 on earMUSIC, the international pop rock label of Edel Group, distributed by Absolute via Universal.

To celebrate the release of Jim Kerr’s debut solo album ‘Lostboy AKA’ out next week Jim is putting on a special Glasgow Preview to take place in the tiny ABC2 venue, Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow on Tuesday 18th May 2010. Doors open at 8.00pm UK time.

Tickets cannot be bought for this special performance but 25 pairs of tickets can be won from Jim’s official website www.lostboyaka.com

Produced by Jez Coad (Simple Minds last 2 albums) and featuring Charlie Jones on bass (Robert Plant, Page & Plant, Goldfrapp) alongside long-time Simple Minds drummer Mel Gaynor, Lostboy! AKA showcases a new musical alter ego for Jim, whilst retaining strong links with his 40-million selling, 33-year career with Simple Minds.

Lostboy! AKA is all about big melodic themes, turbo charged rhythms and guitars that shine. It is a noisy and juvenile explosion that comes from a wise head and a sophisticated heart; a rock and roll clatter that involves sequencers and hidden symphonies. It is also an eclectic collection, with tracks ranging from the Joy Division-esque, electro-tinged She Fell in Love With Silence via pop gems such as title track Lostboy! and Bulletproof Heart, to the instantly recognisable Simple Minds sound of Shadowland, which has also been selected as the lead single for this epic record.

The album will be released in 4 physical formats as well as digitally; a standard 11-track CD; 12” Vinyl; a limited edition CD featuring 3 bonus studio tracks, and a collector’s edition bundle which includes both the CD and a 7” vinyl single featuring covers of Velvet Underground’s “What Goes On” and The Verve’s “Lucky Man”.

Jim Kerr says, “Unbelievably I seemed to have reconnected with the spirit of the kid I was when I first started to make rock music. As if I had come face to face with the lost boy that I had left behind. I wanted to make music that reflected the rediscovery of the energy with which I had reconnected. I am delighted with the result and convinced that Lostboy! AKA is something special that will grow quickly over the next years in parallel with the ongoing great story of Simple Minds.”

Sweethead, the new project from Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age, A Perfect Circle, Failure), have released their Self-Titled debut album through The End Records. Named after a Bowie B-Side, Sweethead includes Serrina on vocals, Norm Block on drums (Mark Lanegan Band, Plexi) and Eddie Nappi on bass (Mark Lanegan Band, Handsome).

Sweethead’s debut contains the slithering rock gem “Traumatized And Dumb,” which was previously included on their EP Traumatized and Dumb, which was only released in Europe. From the punk influenced track “Turned Our Backs” to the gritty “City Of Dirt” Sweethead is a potent reminder of the sheer thrills of rock ‘n’ roll decadence.

Purchase the album from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003K40RKG?ie=UTF8&tag=red_dist-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B003K40RKG

Recently, Venuszine.com premiered the video for the track “Traumatized And Dumb,” which was filmed while the band toured Europe with Eagles of Death Metal and Them Crooked Vultures last year. Watch it here: http://venuszine.com/clips/video/music/94/Exclusive_Premiere

For the month of May Sweethead have settled into L.A.’s seminal indie-rock venue Spaceland. The residency kicked off on May 3rd, and every Monday following the band will be playing a FREE show. The residency wraps on May 24th with a “family night” featuring other QOTSA-related acts such as Mini-Mansions, Alain Johannes and a “very special guest.” Ashes Divide, Slang Chickens, Earthlings? and Red Fang are among other acts playing alongside the band during the stint.

New York based indie rockers, We Are Scientists, hard at work (and play) in the UK for most of this year, will release their fourth and by all accounts best studio album, Barbara, on June 15th 2010.

New York based indie rockers, We Are Scientists, hard at work (and play) in the UK for most of this year, will release their fourth and by all accounts best studio album, Barbara, on June 15th 2010. The album follows the We Are Scientists rock music brand by including beat-driven, melody-wrapped, harmony-draped, lyrically-savvy tracks. W.A.S. is Keith Murray and Chris Cain. On Barbara, the duo recruited a brand new set of hands and feet behind the drum kit in the shape of Master Andy Burrows (ex-Razorlight drummer).

The band’s breakthrough success came with their danceable rock debut With Love & Squalor which sold over 100,000 copies in the UK. It featured the lead single “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt,” accompanied by a hilarious video featuring the band being stalked and chased by a bear. The initial buzz on “Nobody Move…” was so hot that the band landed a performance slot on “Late Show with David Letterman,” their US television debut in December 2005 even before the cd was released. “The Great Escape,” and “It’s a Hit,” were released as follow-up singles. Brain Thrust Mastery, the band’s sophomore effort, charted at 11 in the UK album chart, with two top 40 singles “After Hours” and “Chick Lit.”

With Barbara, devoted We Are Scientists fans will hear a record that more closely resembles With Love & Squalor in its tendency to sound like three guys playing, singing and drinking and, very occasionally, cussing. Recent converts will appreciate the continuation of melodic and lyrical trends begun on Brain Thrust Mastery. Barbara features efficient pop singles like “Rules Don’t Stop” and “Nice Guys”, as well as expansive harmonic adventures such as the tracks, “Pittsburgh” and “Foreign Kicks.”

We Are Scientists describe their output as “rock music of the thoughtful, sometimes epic, often loud, vaguely danceable, implicitly humanist variety” and their gigs are notoriously wacky, often featuring jokes and banter between the band and their devoted following.

Additionally, Keith & Chris created and starred in a series of television shorts called “Steve Wants His Money.” The series premiered in October 2009 during the Lil MTV program on MTV UK. The episodes were made available to watch on MTV.co.uk shortly after the premiere. The comical and witty series focuses around We Are Scientists owing an American man named Steve money and consequently running away to England where they attempt to sell off various marketing ideas to musicians, journalists, music DJ’s and promoters.

The band has toured with names such as Art Brut, Arctic Monkeys, Maximo Park, The Mystery Jets, R.E.M., Kings of Leon, Kaiser Chiefs, Editors, The Pixies and many others. The band is set up for an extensive world tour beginning in June 2010. W.A.S will be performing in highly regarded festivals such as Camden Crawl, The Hurricane/Southside Festival, The Glastonbury Festival, Hultsfred Festival, T in the Park Festival, Splendour in the Grass, Reading Festival, Leeds Festival and more. Fall US tour dates to be confirmed.

Special Nine City Tour to Usher in the Release of Deth Red Sabaoth

Special Nine City Tour to Usher in the Release of Deth Red Sabaoth

Glenn Danzig, at the forefront of the hardcore/dark metal movement for nearly three decades, announces a special nine-city concert trek that will kick off in Norfolk, VA on June 15. The dates, played to usher in the release of Deth Red Sabaoth (evilive/The End Records), Danzig’s first new studio album in six years, will feature long-time Danzig cohort, guitarist Tommy Victor (Prong, Ministry), drummer Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative) and former Samhaim bandmate, bassist Steve Zing. Support for the east coast dates will be Gorgeous Frankenstein, the band of original Misfits member Doyle, and Seventh Void, the band that includes of Danzig/Type O Negative drummer Johnny Kelly and Type O guitarist Kenny Hickey.

A special internet pre-sale has now launched at www.ticketmaster.com and is ongoing through Thursday, May 13. During this internet pre-sale, fans who purchase a ticket can also purchase a special, limited edition Danzig 7″ vinyl single with two brand new songs – “On a Wicked Night,” the first single from the new album, and “The Revengeful.” See the itinerary below for on-sale info and where to purchase tickets.

Danzig plans to dig deep into his career-defining catalogue and perform tracks from Danzig, Lucifuge, How the Gods Kill, and on up to the present, including several new songs from Deth Red Sabaoth. “Danzig fans have their own favorites from throughout the years,” said Glenn, “and I hope the set list we put together will satisfy everyone.”

Deth Red Sabaoth, which marks Danzig’s ninth studio venture that began back in 1988 with the Rick Rubin-produced, Platinum-certified Danzig, is an 11-track collection penned by Danzig, and is laced with Glenn’s lycanthropic growls and blues-infected wailing. Tracks including “Black Candy, “The Revengeful,” and “On A Wicked Night,” emit a spectral glow to rival the highest points in Danzig’s colossal discography. Part I of the exquisite two-part “Pyre of Souls” opens with acoustic guitar, haunting piano, Glenn’s plainsong vocal, and an almost dirge-like feel; Part II explodes with electric guitars and a driving, mesmerizing cadence.

In addition to the upcoming Deth Red Sabaoth, Danzig has just published a book of select, previously unreleased Misfits, Danzig, and Samhaim lyrics, titled “Hidden Lyrics of the Left Hand” (Verotik). The book features illustrations by Simon Bisley, who has painted numerous album covers for Danzig and collaborated on many Verotik comic titles.

Glenn Danzig has received many titles, from the Godfather of Dark Metal to a punk pioneer to a man of integrity, but most agree that over his near-30-year career, his intense musical and lyrical statements have left a permanent mark on rock music. He is a gifted songwriter, and his songs have been covered by such diverse artists as Johnny Cash, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and Roy Orbison, just to name a few. His “13,” originally written for Johny Cash and then recorded for Glenn’s own Satan’s Child, was the opening song in last year’s box office smash and Golden Globe winner, The Hangover. Danzig’s music is dark, gothic, and haunting, and continues to influence generation after generation of musicians and music fans across the globe.

In support to their widely-hailed seventh studio album Of Faith, Power and Glory on Anachron America, electronic rock pioneers VNV NATION will be launching a national tour in San Francisco on March 16th and circling the states

In support to their widely-hailed seventh studio album Of Faith, Power and Glory on Anachron America, electronic rock pioneers VNV NATION will be launching a national tour in San Francisco on March 16th and circling the states (tour dates below). The special guests on select shows include SITD and Aerodrone. Kicking off what will be a very busy year, the Irish/English duo will also be releasing Crossing the Divide, a collection of remixes from their current album by Jade Puget from AFI, Rotersand, Reaper, Leæther Strip, Architect and more and will be released in May 2010 (more info soon).

A lush and orchestral return to form, Of Faith… has received plaudits and praise from the likes of All Music Guide (“In a world where bands like the Hold Steady and the Gaslight Anthem get praise for similar sentiments delivered via rock & roll, there seems to be no reason why VNV Nation shouldn’t get some credit of their own”) to ReGen Magazine (“VNV takes futurepop on its next step in evolution…”).

Evolving their trademark sound by augmenting it with even crisper melodies and stronger hooks, Of Faith is an alt-pop pantheon of sharp and soothing keyboards, full and hearty rhythms, and synthpop dancebeats that both embrace their seminal and illustrious past while looking straight ahead into the future. From the lushly atmospheric and majestic opening track “Pro Victoria” to the powerfully propulsive “Tomorrow Never Comes” to the gentle piano ballad “From My Hands,” this is a strikingly warm album in a genre that tends to be cold, hard and isolating.

With their unique and formidable ability to combine very melodic, danceable electronics with haunting and powerful lyrics, VNV Nation have built a massive fanbase, playing to hundreds of thousands of fans at both their own sold-out shows and major rock festivals worldwide. Their massive hits “Standing” and “Dark Angel” are club staples that still pack dancefloors. Of Faith, Power And Glory was released on June 23, 2009 and charted on Billboard’s Electronic Charts at #5.
