LONDON GOES APE!
BRITS DEVOLVE AS APE PLAYGROUND OPENS IN POTTER’S FIELD

Monday 12 December, London UK – London witnessed a rise of the apes today as hundreds of passers-by experienced an unusual uprising in Potter’s Field.

To celebrate the Blu-ray and DVD release of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a dedicated ‘ape playground’, based on the primate sanctuary featured in the film, appeared next to the Thames, housing some spectacular primal performances.

Erwan Le Corre, founder of MovNat (Move Naturally) and highly skilled free-runners from Parkour Generations demonstrated a unique form of fitness that encourages us to ‘ape’ our ancestors and use our bodies as nature intended.

Climbing up trees, jumping from bars, throwing and catching dowels and swinging on tires, the performers could easily have been confused for real-life primates or characters from the iconic Planet of the Apes franchise.

Members of the public were also encouraged to join in and experience ‘MovNat’, the exercise that is encouraging us to learn from our evolutionary roots as research reveals we are becoming increasingly sedentary, walking and exercising half as much as we used to and spending more time indoors.

“It has been great to see so many people come outside and express themselves today,” said Erwan Le Corre, founder of MovNat, who regularly trains the US Navy Seals in the fast-growing exercise.

“Rise of the Planet of the Apes depicts apes developing human characteristics, but we can equally learn from our ancestors, by moving around and being physically active outdoors as nature intended. People are stressed by over-busy lives and cooped up from hours on end, but we must release our inner ape and jump, climb, balance and swing as nature intended. Playgrounds should not just be for kids!”

ABOUT THE RESEARCH
Research was conducted in association with Loughbourough University’s Centre for Global Health & Human Development, drawing on extensive research by Barry Bogin, Professor of Biological Anthropology; Stuart Biddle, Provfessor of Exercise and Sport Psychology; and Stacy Clemes, lecturer in human biology at the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Science.

ABOUT RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
A single act of both compassion and arrogance leads to a battle unlike any other when RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES makes its worldwide debut on Blu-ray Triple Play and DVD on 12th December. From the Oscar-winning® visual effects team that brought to life the worlds of Avatar and Lord of the Rings comes revolutionary new ground - a CGI ape that delivers a dramatic performance of unprecedented emotion and intelligence, and epic battles on which rest the upended destinies of man and primate.

James Franco (127 Hours) stars as Will Rodman, a neuroscientist living in San Francisco trying to develop a cure for Alzheimer’s disease by testing on chimpanzees, giving them a human level of intelligence. After a test subject’s baby, Caesar, is orphaned, Will decides to raise him at home on his own with his Alzheimer-stricken father (John Lithgow; “Dexter”). What begins simply as a continuation of his experiment quickly turns into a problem for Will, as Caesar is taken away from him and forced to live in a primate facility. As Caesar’s intelligence continues to grow, he begins to stake his claim as the leader of his new primate counterparts, which will ultimately lead to the RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.

The Blu-ray comes packed with extra features including fascinating documentary ‘Breaking Motion Capture Boundaries’, an enlightening insight into how Andy Serkis and his fellow performers were transformed into apes.

ABOUT ERWAN LE CORRE / MOVNAT
Erwan Le Corre is the founder of MovNat, a forward-thinking approach to fitness that finds its practical inspiration in humanity’s primitive roots and is primarily based on rediscovering and optimising instinctual movement patterns. Le Corre and his team hold outdoor training workshops in West Virginia and Thailand, where participants rediscover, practice and master the movement skills of their nature-dwellling ancestors. Born in France, Le Corre is considered one of the leading pioneers of the international primal-fitness movement and regularly trains the US Navy Seals.

MovNat is a fitness method based on that physical education system — a way to build better fitness. As Movnat teaches people to move naturally and efficiently, they become stronger, more coordinated, more fit in the process.
