Climbing up trees, jumping from bars, throwing and catching dowels and swinging on tires, the performers could easily have been confused for real-life primates or characters from the iconic Planet of the Apes franchise. Members of the public were also encouraged to join in and experience ‘MovNat’, the exercise that is encouraging us to learn from our evolutionary roots as research reveals we are becoming increasingly sedentary, walking and exercising half as much as we used to and spending more time indoors. “It has been great to see so many people come outside and express themselves today,” said Erwan Le Corre, founder of MovNat, who regularly trains the US Navy Seals in the fast-growing exercise. “Rise of the Planet of the Apes depicts apes developing human characteristics, but we can equally learn from our ancestors, by moving around and being physically active outdoors as nature intended.
